The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride New York City 2018. Craig Rodsmith and Rodsmith Motorcycle made the trip to New York to be an ambassador for this special ride. Craig is riding his Custom Built Moto Guzzi V9. What an honor. IN 2018, THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN’S RIDE WILL PLAY HOST TO OVER 600 CITIES ACROSS THE GLOBE. WITHIN EACH OF THESE CITIES ARE LANDMARKS THAT MAKE FOR BEAUTIFUL IMAGES, AND DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WHO STRIVE FOR NOTHING MORE THAN TO BRING THE SPIRIT OF DGR TO THEIR HOMES. OVER THE COMING WEEKS, WE WILL BE TAKING A GLANCE AT A SELECT FEW OF THESE BEAUTIFUL CITIES TO SHARE THEIR UNIQUENESS AND THEIR STORIES, AND TO GIVE YOU A GLIMMER OF THE VIBES THAT BELLOW FROM THE BELLIES OF EACH RIDE.
WELCOME TO NEW YORK CITY.
RIDING DAPPER FOR A CAUSE: A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN’S RIDE.
On Sunday September 30th 2018, over 120,000 distinguished gentlefolk in over 650 cities worldwide will don their cravats, tustle their ties, press their tweed, and sit astride their classic and vintage styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, whilst connecting niche motorcycle communities together.

That first ride in 2012 brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities. The success of the event encouraged the founder to consider how it could be used to support a worthy cause. Influenced by the tragedy of losing one of our ride hosts to depression, from 2016 we have seen a change in our health fundraising goals. Now, the funding of men’s mental health programs is a Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride focus, in addition to prostate cancer research through our new official charity partner The Movember Foundation and the support of our title sponsors Triumph Motorcycles and Zenith Watches.
Our focus is on gentlemen who have been dealt a tough hand in life. In particular, we raise funds for research into prostate cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention programs, as part of our mission to support men’s health globally. These funds are invested by our partners, the Movember Foundation, who are the world’s largest men’s health organisation.

It's so cool to watch the DGR wrap-up videos across the globe. I took part in the Berlin, Germany ride where I rode backwards on a Vespa to capture it all: https://youtu.be/Rz_oHw7wOYQ
