The project started over two years ago, thanks to the creator’s son, Xander Backus, who always chose the Aventador when playing video games. One day, he simply asked his dad, “can we build one of those” and, as you will see, the rest is history. Xander’s dad has access to a 3D printer, which allowed him to make almost every part of the car, by himself.
In addition to being a physicist, the creator of the “Lambo” is also a gearhead, so you can expect the Interceptor Aventador to be well-sorted. The project has come a long way and, at least from a distance, it can easily be mistaken for a real Lamborghini Aventador. The replica is still a bit rough around the edges, but when you see the digital cluster with the original Aventador graphics, you know it will be as close to the real thing as possible when completed.
The creator of the project used scaled Aventador models to accurately recreate the shape of the car. All the plastic body panels have been 3D-printed and then glued together. After that, the entire body was wrapped in carbon fiber in order to become more rigid. One thing that will be fundamentally different, however, is the engine.
While some replicas of V-12 cars go for a BMW V-12 or a Mercedes M120 V-12, this one is a bit close to home. Power comes from an all-American Corvette V-8. While we don’t yet know which of the pushrod V-8s it is, you can be sure it will be plenty quick. Maybe not quite as quick as a real Aventador, but still.
While not the first father and son build we have featured, the “Interceptor” is certainly one of the most epic ones we have seen. Projects like these show that you don’t need to spend upwards of $400,000 to get a real Lamborghini Aventador when you can build something similar, yourself; if you so wish, that is. Nevertheless, it looks like the Lambo replica is in its final stages and even has an awesome Mansory-like body kit. More importantly, its creator is good with math, engineering, and physics, which are essential to making a properly sorted car.
