Here’s Your First Look At The First-ever Fully Electric Jeep SUV

As confirmed by Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares, the first EV from Jeep is coming in 2023 and it will not be based on the Wrangler. As seen from the images, the first Jeep EV will be a compact crossover, the design of which is heavily influenced by the Jeep Renegade.

The Renegade has been on sale since 2015, but it never got a fully-electric version. The closest to a Renegade EV is the 4xe hybrid version, which drives the front axle through a 1.3-liter turbo-four while two electric motors are responsible for driving the rear axle. With that in mind, the upcoming 2023 Jeep EV may be Stellantis’ way of rectifying that.

While we don’t know if the upcoming EV crossover from Jeep will be called the Renegade, we know it will be based on the STLA Small platform, which is one of four architectures, dedicated to electrification. The same platform will be used in the lineups of all 14 brands under the Stellantis banner.

Jeep is the first manufacturer under Stellantis to come up with a global, fully-electric model. The EV crossover’s compact dimensions suggest it’s perfect for urban use. This also means that it will be an appealing proposition, not just in North America, but also in Europe where compact crossovers are very popular.

Stellantis’ strategy aims for a 100-percent electric model lineup in Europe and 50 percent, for North America, by 2030. By that point, we would have witnessed 100 new model launches, 75 of which will be electric. After the 2023 Jeep EV, a fully-electric Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck is scheduled to debut in 2024, which should make for a good competition with the Ford F-150 Lightning.
