The Sequoia is Finally Being Updated
Toyota introduced the current Sequoia in 2007 and, despite dwindling sales, refused to properly evolve it into something that could actually compete on the market. The second-gen Sequoia was a dud from the start, however, with the first-gen model raking in mores sales in its late year on the market, than the second-gen ever did in a year (34,315 vs. 30,693 in the second-gen’s best year). Now, with an updated Tundra on the market, it only makes sense that a new Sequoia would arrive.
The teasers we have so far don’t show a lot. The latest teaser, which is of the rear hatch, reveals little. The only notable design features include the SEQUOIA letter on the bottom of the hatch, the metallic finish on the handle, and the horizonal taillights. The other teasers shows a lower shot of the rear quarter, which does reveal a stout bodyline below the belt and an upturned kink for the rear quarter glass. It actually has a small resemblance to the new Land Cruiser.
The front end is, of course, still a big mystery, but we’re willing to bet that Toyota will essentially copy and paste the front end of the Tundra onto the Sequoia. You can also expect the same engine, which means no V-8 powerplant. Instead, you’ll have the sole choice of a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo, V-6 that delivers 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. There should be an option to go hybrid, though, and if so, that will likely deliver 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.
The good news is that you don’t have long to wait to learn all about it as January 25 is just a week away.
