I'm doing a co-op this year for school. And this year I am doing a mechanic placement and so far I have really enjoyed it.

I like cars and am thinking of working as a mechanic like my dad but unfortunately he left and now I don’t have no one to teach me the basics (16 btw)

The experience is maybe buy a cheap crapper car and get more pavement or a permit if you live in an apartment and leave it there just working on it??? Gosh This is something… just not like how we think it should be.

My dad was a mechanic well actually an auto body technician and he always never wanted me to learn because he wanted me to do something better and he didn't want me breathing in all that stuff and you know the sad part he ended up passing from cancer well I ended up being a landscaper tree guy I work outdoors not with many chemicals but I did love cars and I used to work on cars with him and it was a lots of fun and he always said if you are going to get into cars to get into the computer side of the industry honestly he said that you should just look into getting into the computer industry altogether but if you were going to work in cars get on the computer side cuz he used to say sometimes when cars would crash he put it all back together make it look like it did from the showroom floor but then he would have to have somebody come from the dealership with their computer and update all the body control modules and the transmission module and stuff that he couldn't do cuz he didn't have the tools or the knowledge cuz he was old school

You know mechanics can be taught in a school especially nowadays because everything is mostly through the computer now and the computer tells you what tools you're going to need what parts need to be replaced how long it's going to take and it even tells you how to do it nowadays Is it really that hard I mean I don't think so but I will say to be an auto body technician that cannot be taught in a school They might be able to teach you something but you have to physically do it to start being able to make a car look like it came off the showroom floor after it hits a tree at 40mph

Mechanics can be taught in school auto body needs to be hands-on
