The German manufacturer has confirmed the successor to its flagship performance car will swap a V10 petrol engine for electric power.
The successor the Audi R8 supercar will be powered entirely by electricity, according to a new report from Roadshow.
This sends between 397kW and 449kW (depending on variant) to the rear or all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
“[We will] transform the R segment, and the R segment is going to be fully electric. This is our job for the next decade,” Linda Kurz, Audi Sport’s head of product marketing, told the outlet.
This suggests the new zero-emission model won’t necessarily be badged as an R8, however confirms Audi is planning (or considering) a low-slung electric performance car to replace its existing model.
