Jeep Announces Yet Another Recall, This Time Involving Nearly 100,000 Vehicles

Specifically, the recall involves a total of 99,255 units of the Grand Cherokee L (yet again), Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s documents, affected models “may have been built with an occupant

restraint controller (“ORC”) that contains an incorrect software version.”

As a result, the driver, passenger, and knee airbags may be disabled without warning and not work in a crash. Thankfully, Jeep says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this software issue for all markets.

The fix is quite an easy one since this is just a software issue. Just head to your Jeep dealer and they will simply reprogram the ORC unit. Affected Jeep Grand Cherokee L models were built from December 3, 2020, to November 1, 2021, while affected Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models were built from February 24, 2021, to November 1, 2021. As always, the repair will be free of charge, and then affected owners will be contacted by Jeep via mail on or before December 30.

Just a month ago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L was recalled due to an issue regarding its high beams. When the lights are in the “auto” position, the high beams can’t be turned on, and this issue affects
7,082 Grand Cherokee L models without automatic high beams.

And then just two months ago, the Grand Cherokee L became the subject of yet another recall surrounding its rearview camera. 56,180 affected models contain a radio software that can malfunction and prevent the rearview camera from operating.

Let’s certainly hope that Jeep can finally catch a break after this recall.
