The 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV – in both plug-in hybrid, and all-electric configurations – has received top marks for safety from the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
The independently run evaluation allocates an aggregated score (out out of five stars) for new passenger cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles, based on practical crash testing, inbuilt safety features, and the effectiveness of collision avoidance technology.
“To ensure safety is not compromised for consumers wanting to buy an alternative-powered vehicle – for battery and hybrid electric vehicles – we conduct additional checks to make sure they don’t pose unique risks such as battery rupture or electrical hazards to the occupants or first responders,” said Carla Hoorweg, ANCAP’s Chief Executive Officer.
“This gives consumers peace-of-mind and assists fleet buyers in meeting their safety and environmental targets.”
The 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge features blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and a reverse camera as standard. 10 airbags are also fitted inside the cabin (dual frontal, side chest-protection, side head-protection, and driver knee protection).
Pricing for the XC40 plug-in hybrid currently starts at $66,990 before on-road costs in Australia. The all-electric variant is priced from $76,990 before on-road costs.
