Patent images for Land Rover’s largest ever model have leaked online, however the car maker’s Australian arm remains tight lipped about the off-roader’s local future.
The upcoming Land Rover Defender 130 – an elongated variant of the British brand’s existing off-roader, slated for launch in mid-2022 – has been revealed in new patent images.
As first reported by European outlets Motor.es and Autovisie, the design sketches show the vehicle in profile, from above, from in front, and from the rear. Scroll through the gallery below to view all angles.
While the original Defender’s numerical designations (90, 110, and 130) referenced the length of the wheelbase in inches, the newest model will have the same footprint as its smaller Defender 110 range-mate (albeit, with a longer rear-end for increase boot space and passenger room).
Based on analysis of recent spy photos – which captured the model testing on public roads in Germany – it’s expected the vehicle will measure just over 5.0 metres from nose to tail, and feature a third row of seats for up to eight occupants.
A spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in Australia declined to comment on the upcoming model, or the likelihood of it being offered locally. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
