I struggled with addiction for almost 10 years. I have been in and out of jail/prison for years. I now have my Bachelor’s degree in criminal program support services. ๐Ÿ“š I hope to use my experience in the system and my degree to help others better understand addiction and our prison system. This story is based on my own personal opinion and experiences.

Were you in jail or prison when an outbreak of lice happened? I am curious what the procedure is to treat everyone.

I never want to go to jail in the US how can the richest country in the world have it happen in their jails ? Doesn't happen in Norway or Sweden. I love the US but it has problems to fix

Itโ€™s very interesting to hear a womanโ€™s side of things who has served time.

I did 8 years in Louisiana State Pen for Women…1989-1997…with many other stints up until about two years ago…it was the same back then as it is to this very day…Corrections and Penal Systems across America is not going to change…countless others have tried…nothing will change…it's not designed to change…corrections is corrections…I wish u well with your well intended attempt to make a difference…but it ain't gonna happen…but good luck.

I've never been to jail/prison or arrested. But I 100% agree with you that they need all the things you listed. They are human beings with basic human needs. I hate that people forget that!!

So I get the logic and trust me I agree Iโ€™ve been to jail I mean realistically nothing on the scale that the people sheโ€™s talking about I did about a month and a half when I was 18 for stealing when I was underage and moving away so they said I skipped court and didnโ€™t give me bail which is why I was in jail for a month and a half now everything ended up getting dropped because it was all basically a misunderstanding not the stealing from Walmart but the skipping courtโ€ฆthen I went back to jail around 22ish for about 2 weeks over another petty larceny then one last time only for 2 days because of reckless driving doing 76 in a 55 so like I said Idk much about prison and the places I was in were just essentially day cares for adults and the reason why I want to avoid jail all together is just because how ridiculously boring it is and obviously it suckssss to have your freedom taken from you so my point is if you start giving inmates all these things that seem just fair like you donโ€™t wanna treat human beings like animals I get it but two problems one it would cost even more money thatโ€™s pissed away w the corrupt prison system being already a massive money dump andddd at what point do people say man fuck it I kind of like it here lol yeah I canโ€™t go outside when I want but I can smoke cigarettes, I gotta TV in my cell and I can have my girl come over on the weekends๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™ve heard people that are homeless WANT to go to jail because itโ€™s 3 free meals and a roof over your head shiiit you even got someone doing your laundry for you lol so look Iโ€™m about 99% sure Iโ€™m ADHD like I can never sit down Iโ€™m actually pacing back and forth while writing this soooo being stuck in a box with nothing to do is like my biggest fear I neverrrr want to do that again and itโ€™s even worse when you have a GF or something like that while youโ€™re in there cause you just think about everything they could be doing while youโ€™re stuck in here smh so again idk much about actual prison but I just donโ€™t know if those things will help fix the real problem with the way the prison system works and I could be wrong but even still if it would help it would most definitely create other problems
