The new plug-in hybrid SUV – which is almost identical to its petrol range-mate – will arrive in Australian showrooms during the first half of next year.
The all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid) has been revealed overseas, however performance specifications are still yet to be confirmed.
While the fuel-sipping SUV does not deviate aesthetically from its petrol-powered twin, it picks up ‘PHEV’ and ‘EV’ badging on the doors and tailgate.
A charging flap has also been fitted above the rear wheel on the passenger side, and a black roof can be optioned for the first time.
Standard features include 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and a black roof, all fitted to the petrol-powered Outlander Exceed Tourer in Australia.
Inside the cabin, infotainment comes via a centrally-mounted 9.0-inch touchscreen. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel in press shots, expected to be standard on flagship variants.
As with the petrol-powered Outlander, a third row of seating permits up to seven occupants.
Buyers can select from 10 colour options, including ‘Red Diamond’, ‘White Diamond’, and ‘Black Diamond’.
Powertrain details are yet to be announced, however Mitsubishi Australia sources told Drive: “It will be all-wheel drive, and more powerful than the outgoing variant.”
Further details of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be released on October 28, ahead of Australian arrival in the first half of next year (January to June, inclusive).
