The new Audi S3 hatch and sedan will arrive in Australian showrooms by the end of 2021 with more power and technology – but it will come with a price rise.

The 2022 Audi S3 Sportback and sedan will arrive in Australia later this year, priced from just under $70,000 before on-road costs.
One highly-specified variant of Audi’s new go-fast small car will reach showrooms priced from $69,900 before on-road costs for the Sportback hatch, or $72,400 for the sedan (as reported by industry guide Redbook) – increases of $5700 and $6600 over the outgoing S3 hatch and sedan, nudging the drive-away price close to $80,000.
However, there’s a range of new technologies on offer with the new-generation model, along with an uprated engine: an evolution of the outgoing S3’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder, developing 228kW and 400Nm.
Those numbers match the full outputs offered in Europe, rather than detuned ‘hot weather’ figures for the Australian market, as applied to the outgoing 213kW/380Nm S3. They also make the new S3 the most powerful A3 on offer until the new RS3’s arrival in the first half of 2022.
Drive is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard, translating to a 4.7-second claimed 0-100km/h time, and a 250km/h electronically-limited top speed. Combined claimed fuel consumption sits at 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres, up over the previous car’s 6.7L/100km claim.
As revealed exclusively by Drive earlier this year, standard equipment across both S3 body styles in Australia includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, nappa leather trim, electric front seats, matrix LED headlights, and a 15-speaker sound system.
A full suite of safety systems are standard, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, semi-autonomous parking, and an array of airbags, including one between the front seats.
While an array of options are available, the headline act is the $3990 Premium Plus package, which adds a panoramic glass sunroof, 360-degree camera, head-up display, and memory for the driver’s seat and side mirrors.
All metallic and pearl paint colours are standard (bar Audi ‘Exclusive’ finishes), including Mythos Black, Navarra Blue, Turbo Blue, Daytona Grey, Tango Red, Ibis White, Glacier White and Python Yellow.
The 2022 Audi S3 range will arrive in Australian showrooms by the end of 2021.
