Three timepieces inspired by classic American sports cars from the 1960s were unveiled as the Breitling Top Time Classic Cars Capsule Collection at the recent Geneva Watch Days.
The watches look back to the Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang and Shelby Cobra, which the watchmaker calls “three icons of the American car culture.” Breitling adds that the watches “are a nod to the original 1960s Breitling Top Time models, which were designed for “young and active professionals.”
“Today’s modern-retro interpretations are perhaps even more youthful and free-spirited,” the company added.
“These disruptive chronographs with a motoring twist stand out for their bold dial colors with orange and yellow or red and blue touches and racing-themed watch straps in calfskin leather,” the cover letter with the news release notes.
“Engraved stainless-steel casebacks showcase each car’s logo in impressive detail, and the chronograph pushers punctuate the dial. All three watches are water-resistant up to 100 meters.”
“It’s about the journey, not the tempo,” Breitling chief executive Georges Kern is quoted. “And that’s true whether you’re tinkering under the hood or hitting the road for a Sunday ride celebrating these beautiful machines.”
The range includes the Top Time Chevrolet Corvette, based on the C2 generation and presented in red and black. The Top Time Ford Mustang watch is done in green and brown. The Top Time Shelby Cobra timepiece is blue and brown.
The Corvette and Mustang watches have 42mm cases, versions of the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 25, and a self-winding 1/8th of a second chronograph movement with a power reserve of about 42 hours. Both watches feature a tachymeter scale and three contrasting black subdials. Their dials display the car logos at the 12 o’clock position.
The Shelby watch is slightly smaller, at 40mm, with a COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 41, a self-winding 1/4th of a second chronograph movement and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. It has a white tachymeter scale and two contrasting white subdials, plus the Cobra logo at the 6 o’clock position.
Each of the watches is priced at $5,500.
