Up for auction on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is a steel-bodied 1940 Ford Deluxe convertible that’s remained in the same family for the past 49 years. The seller’s father purchased it in 1972 and later passed it onto him.
After receiving an older restoration, which included upgrading period-correct speed equipment, the seller notes the car has been well cared for and garage-kept.
The 2-door convertible is finished in black that’s nicely accented by a tan-colored top and features vent windows, fender skirts and dual side-view mirrors. Brightwork can be found in the form of bumpers, side trim, headlight and taillight bezels, front grille and hood trim.
It rides on factory wheels with chrome hubcaps and beauty rings wrapped in whitewall tires.
The interior houses a two-tone dashboard in maroon and tan along with brown seating and matching door panels. You’ll also find manual windows and a clock mounted on the door of the glove box.
Power comes from a Flathead V8 that began its life as a military surplus engine and is now equipped with Offenhauser heads, dual single-barrel carburetor setup, upgraded ignition system and headers. It is linked to a 3-speed manual transmission controlled by a column-mounted shifter.

The seller notes the military surplus Flathead was destined to be a tank engine but wasn’t used until it was placed in this convertible.
