Here’s What Two of the Biggest Names on YouTube Have to Say About the Model S Plaid

Both of them have reviewed and given their impressions of the 2022 Tesla Model S Plaid. Marques actually owns one. The tech YouTuber has in fact, shown an interest in EV’s recently and has also reviewed cars like the Mercedes Benz EQS, Ford F-150 Lightning, and the Porsche Taycan.

Being an automotive writer, watching Doug’s content is more like entertainment after a hard day at work and I have a tendency to binge watch his videos. But I have never, I repeat, NEVER seen Doug look so dumbfounded while accelerating a car before, in any review. He referred to the ballistic acceleration as warp speed. This was in fact, the very first time that DeMuro had reviewed the Model S.

Now, Doug isn’t necessarily the biggest Tesla guy, criticizing it for its build quality, but he says that it was the first time with this new Model S, that he actually emotionally connected with a Tesla. So much so that the new 2022 Model S topped the charts with the highest Doug Score. Given the Ludicrous performance, Doug was really impressed by how practical the car was. Marques acknowledges that fact, having easily fit two bicycles in the trunk.

For Doug though, mashing the throttle on the Plaid was astonishing and Marques also believes, that this kind of power is now accessible to regular people. To draw some context, Doug adds that back in the day, if you went and got yourself a Lamborghini Diablo, you required some degree of skill to handle the heavy clutch and stick shift.

The Diablo according to him, is by no means a fast car, by today’s standards with a 0-60 mph time of five seconds. Now though, he says, any lawyer can show up at a Tesla store in the mall, and order the fastest car in human history.

Doug said that he loves his gas-powered manual transmission cars, but it is hard to ignore, just how incredible the new Model S Plaid really is. Marques said that he in fact knows a bunch of car people who have eight to nine cars, who daily drive a Tesla, because it is a fun performer, offers a tonne of space and great tech.

Marques has a dilemma with, why would Tesla go to all the lengths of making one of the best drivers cars in the world, and then offer state of the art, autonomous driving, where you no longer have to take the wheel (Yoke in this case). This is so contradictory.

To this, Doug says that autopilot alone won’t make for a compelling new car, it has to be cool as hell and that’s exactly what the new Plaid is, with its bonkers acceleration. As much of a car guy that he is, Doug admits to the benefits of a feature like Tesla Autopilot, in everyday bumper-to-bumper traffic, where he could be happily replying to emails.

Coming to the Yoke, both Marques and Doug agree that it isn’t the best implementation and there are others in the Auto Industry like Ferrari for instance, who do a much better job at it.

Both Marques and Doug have previously also reviewed the Taycan, but after driving the new Plaid, they are now leaning in favor of the Tesla. Doug says that at $140,000, the Tesla isn’t cheap by any means, but the kind of performance that it offers for the money, the new Plaid stacks up pretty darn well.
