How much payload is left in the 2022 Isuzu MU-X at maximum towing capacity? We crunch the numbers to see how it compares.

The 2022 Isuzu MU-X four-wheel-drive has the strongest towing capacity among its direct rivals.
The maximum braked towing capacity is rated at 3500kg versus 3000kg to 3100kg for most other vehicles in its category – and the 3000kg limit for its predecessor.
The 3500kg towing capacity puts the 2022 Isuzu MU-X in the same company as most double-cab utes – and the mighty Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series and upcoming 300 Series.

However, this new level of towing capacity will either come at the cost of what you can carry in the vehicle – or give holidaymakers the ability to carry more gear if they cap the weight of their caravan to 3000kg.
For example, customers who top out the towing capacity of the 2022 Isuzu MU-X with a 3500kg trailer will only be able to carry between 225kg and 365kg inside the car – and that 225kg to 365kg must include the driver and passengers, as well as any extra equipment bolted onto the car or carried inside it.
At maximum towing capacity, the 2022 Isuzu MU-X has among the weakest payload among its rivals.
However, data compiled by CarAdvice shows if buyers of the 2022 Isuzu MU-X are prepared to cap their total trailer towing capacity to 3000kg, they will have the advantage of being able to legally and safely carry more weight inside the vehicle (725kg to 865kg) versus direct rivals.

Below is a list of how the towing capacity of the 2022 Isuzu MU-X compares to its classmates.
We’ve calculated the payload of each vehicle at its maximum towing capacity – and also calculated payload figures for when each vehicle is towing a 3000kg trailer, so we can compare like for like.
This table is a guide only. We have made every attempt to ensure the data is accurate, however it is subject to change by manufacturers without notice.
Be sure to check the details with each manufacturer to find out which vehicles suit your towing and payload needs.
Note: All payload figures listed below have been calculated by subtracting towing capacity and kerb weight from the gross combination mass listed by each manufacturer. Ford quotes higher payload figures on the Everest brochure, but for consistency we have calculated the payload for all vehicles using GCM minus towing capacity minus kerb weight.
