Can't fix stupid. After 32 years in the fire service and working around every make of diesel motor you would be amazed how mistakes professional firefighters make regarding diesel engines. Stupidity costs the American Tax Payer millions of dollars every year because of stupid mistakes(that get washed under the rug by the way).

on push button start tucks, i think you can disconnect the fuel pump fuse, then hold the start button WITHOUT putting your foot on the brakes

Just like adding brake fluid to your power steering Res in a VW Touareg. That was 20k miles ago and Iām still sending it.

They should've put 2 doors on the side of the bed–1 big one for the fuel fill and 1 small one for the DEF. Putting both fills behind the same door was a bad place to cut costs.

There is a priming procedure at filter changes for power ON 6x times without starting (foot off gas). Your concern was air damaging the pump?
