“Rarely does a one-family owner vehicle such as this ever get offered for sale, but this is actually the case with this SII,” reports the private seller of the Pick of the Day, a 1960 Bentley S2.
Actually, such vehicles do sometimes come to market, but often it is through a high-end auction house, and especially with a vehicle such as this, which the seller/owner reports “has traveled less than 1,700 miles per year in its life of obsessive care and protection, and reflects the dedication of its owner.”
Obsessive? Dedication? Check this:
“This vehicle has been serviced by the most accredited Bentley service facilities and most recently by one of SF finest mechanics,” the advertisement on ClassicCars.com continues.
“To prepare this car for sale, the owner decided to undergo a near frame off restoration having the entire body stripped and meticulously re-finished in correct Bentley metallic enamel. Removed the complete woodwork and interior and restored wood to the original depth and gloss and then had seats re done in new Connolly hides supplied by Bentley UK., and of course new cut pile Shelton carpets to match. All exterior chrome work was completed by one of CA’s top plating firms. Brakes, cooling and fuel systems were dismantled and completely rebuilt to exact specifications. The list of restore points is too extensive to list. Truly a no expense spared exercise by the owner.”
The car has left-hand drive, electric windows and air conditioning. It’s finished in shell silver metallic paint with red leather interior.
“It is unquestionably the best example of a Bentley SII that is available in the world currently. Any inspection and viewing will reveal the quality of this rare automobile here in San Francisco.”
Bentley’s S2 was in production only from 1959 until 1962. It succeeded the S1, replacing the S1 straight-6 engine with the new Rolls-Bentley L Series V8, a 6.2-liter unit that not only provided more power to the rear wheels, but brought with it improved air conditioning and standard power steering. The S2 also got a new dashboard and steering wheel among its updates.
Fewer than 1,865 units were produced. The owner/seller of this one is asking $85,000.
