Im only a couple of minutes in so I don’t know if you’ll address this, but having your keys on a long lanyard. I hadn’t ridden on a highway in a while and I did last week and the high speed made my lanyard go everywhere and get stuck on my clutch lever and my front brake as well

I take everything slow when it comes to something im not familiar with. When i first was learning to ride last year. I rode around my neighborhood until i got used to the bike. Once i got that down i moved onto additional side roads with heavier traffic once i felt more comfortable i took it into heavy four lane traffic. Then i took it on the highway then onto rural twisty roads. As i got more confident i would introduce more techniques and push myself a little more… But the key is that whenever I am learning or practicing something new. I make sure to only take roads i am very familiar with so that i don't have to try to focus on learning a new road too.

I get the pocket thing, but, honestly, it seems a bit dramatic. I wouldn't put them in my pants, necessarily, but in the jacket? Sure. If you do a belly flop on the highway, keys in your front pocket are the least of your worries. Now, screwdrivers and knives, on the other hand… don't put those in your pockets. That's just stupid.

I have riding boots with laces. I just wrap my laces aroung the ankle, put them inside and pull my kevlar jeans over 🙂

I had a semi blow a tire right next to me in a car. It was as loud as a bomb going off. Scared the crap out of me. Had I been on a bike, I would have gone down. Keep away from those trucks!

I was on a LA freeway a while back. Had these youngsters behind me tailgating, well they passed me on the left in the carpool lane. When they passed they were trying to get me to race. I'm an old guy and just let them go on their way. Once they were almost a car length in front of me, their right rear tire blew and chunks were flying, I ducked and a large piece of tire bounced of the top of my helmet and they went left into the divider, I gave it all the gas and made it by as they bounced back into the traffic. I am a blessed man, had I stayed in that lane I'd been taken out. I've only rode trail and tracks most of my life and this was my first street bike. I've only been on the street for about 6-8 months, talk about reality and a lesson learned. Nobody was injured and no other cars got caught up in the mess. Since then, my head is on a swivel and I don't ride these crazy freeways anymore.. I just get to different places on less crazy roads.. Y'all be safe and God speed. ✌
