A new extra-cab Ranger has been spotted in NSW as Ford engineers continue local on-road testing.

The 2022 Ford Ranger Super Cab has been caught as engineers continue testing on the NSW south coast.
Days after images of the Ranger prototypes appeared on social networks, CarAdvice reader Simon has sent through some footage revealing a new Super Cab body from Ford.
In the video (found at the end of this story), the camouflaged Super Cab sounds as if it’s a turbo diesel engine mated to a manual transmission – suggesting it could be a revised version of the 2.2-litre four-cylinder currently offered in the entry-level extra-cab Ranger Hi-Rider.

However, the ‘sail plane’ sports bar and roof rails hint that it could be more than just a basic-spec ute, showing similarities to the Ranger Wildtrak prototype spotted recently in Melbourne.
The Blue Oval currently offers the extra-cab body across five variants: starting with the two-wheel-drive Ranger XL Super Cab chassis 2.2-litre Hi-Rider, up to the four-wheel-drive Ranger XLT Super Cab with a tub and the 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel shared with the Ranger Raptor.
Among the mules being tested were a number of left-hand-drive vehicles, indicating Ford’s Aussie engineers are conducting on-road evaluations for a number of international markets.
A spokesperson for Ford Australia wouldn’t comment on the new model, but did tell CarAdvice “the work of our 2500-strong design and engineering team has been central to its development”.
