Treating the physical and invisible wounds of many returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans may involve the use of pain medications and other therapies. A new study found that U.S. veterans with mental health conditions, especially Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, were more likely than veterans without mental health disorders to receive opioid medications, but were also at increased risk for adverse clinical outcomes related to use of these drugs.
