Helm, a company founded in 2020 by Jaguar E-type restoration specialist and automotive engineer Chedeen Battick, has announced plans to produce 20 “reimagined” and customized versions as part of the classic British sports car’s 60th anniversary this year.
According to the news release, Battick has been seeking out for more than a decade “the finest examples” of E-types for restoration in the UK and Europe and is ready “to create unique works of automotive art, which will never be replicated.”
“From the steel-reinforced monocoque shell, the handmade aluminum doors and hand-built and polished big-bore aircraft-grade stainless-steel exhaust system, upwards of 3,800-man hours go into creation of one of Helm’s E-types,” according to the company’s announcement.
Modern technology, such as electronic speed-sensitive power steering, a five-speed gearbox, 6-piston alloy front brakes, adjustable suspension, a heated windscreen and a soft-close door system, is integrated into the builds. It also appears the 3.8-liter straight-8 engines will be fuel injected and rated at 300 horsepower.
The interior is done in collaboration with leather expert Bill Amberg and features suede and semi-aniline leather, the release says. Included with each car will be two sets of Amberg’s Rocket-bag luggage, in weekend and briefcase versions, Helm added.
“I wanted to create the E-type the way I feel it should be, remaining sensitive to its history, but without a vinyl interior, and without the hassle of carburetor trouble,” Chedeen is quoted.
“We combine British craftsmanship with the finest standards of modern automotive engineering, instilling a feeling of love, care and attention to detail within each component.”
Each car will be priced at £420,000 ($580,000).
