Australian dealers have been told to immediately stop customer deliveries of the large wagon-turned-SUV on the advice of the company’s factory in Japan.

Deliveries of the 2021 Subaru Outback in Australia have been halted for an as-yet unknown reason, after receiving direct communication from its Japan-based factory.

“We expect the factory to confirm the nature of the issue shortly and Subaru Australia will advise customers,” a Subaru Australian spokesperson told CarAdvice.

CarAdvice understands dealers only learned of the delivery pause on the morning of March 23.

Shortly thereafter, customers with existing Outback orders were informed there would be a delay until they received their cars, but specific timing was not provided.

The new-generation Outback arrived in showrooms in February this year, offering three specification grades and an all-new platform.

As of publishing, customers are still able to place orders to purchase the new Outback, with delivery to occur around 8-12 weeks later.

CarAdvice will update this story as more details come to hand.
