There’s a cable television station called Decades that offers a nostalgic look back at shows dating from the 1950s. It offers a regular schedule, and on weekends lets you binge-watch such classics as Route 66 and The Saint.
Yes, I’ve spent part of the past two weekends doing just that, watching back-to-back-to-back episodes of Tod and Buz driving across America in their classic Corvette and watching Simon Templar in his Volvo P1800S on the streets of Great Britain.
And now it comes my turn to hunt through the docket of AutoHunter, the online collector car auction website driven by ClassicCars.com, and it’s succumbed to the decades format by selecting one car each from the 1930s, the 1940s, the 1950s and the 1960s.
There’s much more there to see, of course, but these are my selections for this weekend’s consideration:
The previous owner bought the car from the Volo Auto Museum near Chicago and afterward did a complete restoration, with some upgrades, including the suspension to enhance ride quality.
The original 221cid Flathead Ford V8 was rebuilt by specialist Dog Clem and is mated to a manual transmission. The car has been driven only 329 miles since the restoration.
Only 800 of these fastback models were produced, and this one has been updated underneath with a fuel-injected Ramjet 350cid General Motors crate engine and an interior sourced from a 1990s-era Cadillac and thus has black leather and power-adjustable bucket seats. It also has power steering and brakes, air conditioning and updated audio system.
Ford’s retractable hardtop remains popular with car collectors, and this one won Antique Automobile Club of America national honors after its restoration by Ford collector Jerry Capizzi. From the Cappy Collection, the car went to another collector and then to the consignor to AutoHunter.
The car, in two-tone Geranium over Colonial white, has a high-output (300 horsepower) 352cid V8 and automatic transmission.
1962 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 110
Corvair specialists Marty Katz and Mike Biron did the restoration work on this Monza, which has a red vinyl interior that includes a couple of cupholders atop the transmission tunnel. The 2.4-liter flat-6 engine has been freshened by Clark’s Corvair with new seals and rebuilt carburetors. The engine links to a 4-speed manual transmission.
The car is being sold with an extra set of doors, miscellaneous spare parts and a fitted waterproof car cover.
