As the story goes, this 1947 Dodge WF32 was a working farm truck, purchased new by the grandparents of a friend of the seller’s back in 1948 and used on their Kansas wheat farm until 1981. The seller acquired it in 2009, has restored and updated the truck. and is now ready to sell it through an advertisement on ClassicCars.com.
“I myself and our neighborhood have enjoyed having this truck around,” reports the seller in Waco, Texas. “We have gotten many years of fun with this truck, driving it around, going to shows, and most fun of all, going Christmas caroling every holiday season to the neighborhood!”
The truck, which had been used as a wheat-grain hauler for the thresher on the farm, was parked with 38,126 miles on its odometer.
“Being somewhat rusted and having sat so long when I obtained it, I had the original engine completely rebuilt, a completely new brake system, upgraded the electrical to a 12-volt system, had the exterior professionally repainted. A local leather shop made a new real-leather seat cover,” the seller notes in the advertisement.
In 1947, Dodge equipped its 1.5-ton WF32 with a 236cid inline-6-cylinder engine rated at 104 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque.
“It runs and drives well,” the seller assures. “I would say great, but with its all-original drive and powertrain, it can sometimes be a little cranky on cold winter days.”
The engine and brakes and interior weren’t the only things that were restored or updated.
“The truck bed is all new. I acquired some 160+-year-old long-leaf pine from an old barn that we tore down so that we could salvage and restore the barn timber. A lucky, rare, and beautiful find! A cabinetmaker friend helped me build the bed.”
The 1947 model year was the last for the W series Dodge trucks, which were introduced in 1941 and were extensively used by the military during World War II. The civilian Ws featured streamlined Art Deco design cues which were replaced with what now seems a much more traditional styling of the new post-war B series trucks launched for 1948.
The asking price for this ’47 WF32 is $29,000.
