A software fault could significantly reduce braking performance, according to the manufacturer.
Hyundai Australia has recalled 1072 examples of its Kona Electric and hydrogen-powered Nexo, citing a fault with the Integrated Electronic Brake system (IEB).
The affected vehicles were sold between 1 May 2018 and 31 December 2020, with Model Years ranging between 2018 and 2020.
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “a software fault in the IEB may significantly reduce braking performance.”
“The vehicle’s stopping distance may be longer than usual – this increases the risk of an accident resulting in injuries or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the notice continues.
A spokesperson for Hyundai Australia told CarAdvice there have been “no instances of failure of this kind in Australia.”
