It was about a week ago that we published a story about the 100th anniversary of Rolls-Royce starting vehicle assembly and then production in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was only a few days later that one of those Springfield Rolls popped up for sale on the ClassicCars.com marketplace.
The Pick of the Day is a 1923 Springfield-built Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost being offered for sale by a private seller in Middlebury, Vermont.
According to the advertisement, Chassis 393XH originally was sold to J.E. Aldred of the Gillette Razors company. The advertisement lists four subsequent owners, including Rolls collector Prestley Blake of the Friendly Ice Cream stores. The seller acquired the car from Blake in 2002.
“Of all the coachwork options on the Ghost chassis, the sporty Pall Mall tourer combines the appeal of open motoring with room for four and just enough space for luggage and silver service of choice,” the seller notes in the car’s advertisement.
“Simply put,” the seller proclaims, “this Rolls is the finest running and driving Springfield Ghost in the world!”
The advertisement notes that the car shows 53,101 miles on its odometer, which presumably is its lifetime mileage.
