A highly-limited hot hatch hero is the halo of Honda’s line-up for the coming year.
As of November 2020, Honda had cornered 3.2 per cent of the Australia new-car market for the year, down from 4.1 per cent the year prior.
The bulk of these sales went to two SUV models – the larger CR-V and the smaller HR-V – which ranked as the brand’s first and second top-selling cars, respectively.
Honda released no new nameplates in 2020, but recorded a few departures, namely the City sedan, the NSX sports car and the Jazz hatchback (but not before it has a last blast in 2021 Final Edition form).
In late 2020, it also debuted the mid-life update for its Civic Type R hot hatch, adding new performance and tech features in line with a price bump.
But for 2021, the hottest ticket in town will be for the Civic Type R Limited Edition – only 19 of which will make their way to Australia.
The special Civic boasts an exclusive Sunlight Yellow II paint finish with black exterior accents, lightweight 20-inch BBS alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, changes to dampers and steering, and stripped out sound-deadening in the roof, tailgate, dashboard and front bumper.
So exclusive is the car, that those who wanted it had to enter a lottery draw in order to even have the option of purchasing one.
Also slated for 2021 is an update for the Odyssey people mover, which a spokesperson recently confirmed “remains an ongoing part of our model line-up”.
We’re also waiting on the Honda E electric car, which won 2020’s German Car of the Year award, to make its way to our shores.
