This was the most difficult video I’ve ever released. I’m putting myself out there in hopes that it helps somebody know… that it helps YOU know… that you are #NotAlone.

Guys when I release videos talking about mental health, I get an enormous amount of messages, emails, and other communications regarding issues that are best discussed with a licensed therapist. As much as love this community and desire to help, I’m just a dude, struggling like a lot of us do, and have a hard enough time handling my own issues. I wish that I could help every person who sends a message individually, but it does get overwhelming and in the past has been pretty gnarly for my own mental well being to try and play therapist to hundreds of awesome folks when I have literally no idea what I’m doing in that area. If you need help, I encourage you to seek counseling from an awesome therapist, and see a psychiatrist if you think meds might help you function better. (Not just a doctor/ family practitioner, but a legit psychiatrist) It might take a few tries to get a therapist/psychiatrist who you jive with, but I promise, when you find the right therapist it makes a world of difference and can save your life. Also, insurance lately has been way better at helping with psychiatry and therapy. My current insurance covers almost the whole bill, and both psychiatry, meds, and therapy end up costing about $20-$30 a month and it has been 100% worth every penny. I still have a long way to go, but I have more hope now than I’ve had in a long time.

If you are struggling, or know somebody else who is struggling, this site has a lot of great resources:

If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call 911 immediately.
If you are in crisis or are experiencing difficult or suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273 TALK (8255)
If you’re uncomfortable talking on the phone, you can also text NAMI to 741-741 to be connected to a free, trained crisis counselor on the Crisis Text Line.

Love you Tyler. Thank you for making this video!

I've been away from a lot of everything for a good bit now, and just came back to find this post. Tyler, thank you. This is what I needed, and probably what we all need. We're all human, we have people we need and people that need us, and this is all (like, ALL, ALL) really, really tough to deal with. I'm not far away down here in NM, I'll send all the love and energy I can up your way, and maybe someday we'll meet on the trail, I hope. Ride on my friend, stay strong, and be open to everything. If I've learned anything from life, bottling it up just hurts you. peace.

Thank you for posting this…especially during a time such as the one we are in now. Your candor and willingness to share is incredibly valuable! I simply must tell you how much truth you speak in this vid. Of course, I love your honest bike reviews and I watch them often. Still, this video is SO important. I have so many words of thanks for you doing this, I'd likely bore you to tears. Still…please know what you did here has value beyond measure. As patently corny as it may sound, I feel compelled to tell you that you are a brother. (again, please forgive the corny part) We both live and love in moto-world. Just as importantly though, you are a truly valuable resource for those of us who also suffer from depression. I'm quite sure your family knows this all to well, but even a stranger like me sees your wonderful character from a million miles away.

Thank you for your courage in sharing this. I can’t tell you how much you’ve helped me understand my 18 year old son. Also an avid dirt and adv bike rider. He’s so talented. He’s attempted several times to harm himself during some very dark periods of his life and I’ve struggled to understand why. You’ve helped me so much. God bless you.

I am lucky my brain doesn’t work this way but I have friends and family that do suffer as you suffer. This helps those of us who want to help. You are definitely not alone. This video is 100% worth it to be on your channel. Much love.

Tyler, you literally said things that I have said over the years, word for word. That suicide follows when you conclude you won't be missed. That you don't know how much someone is suffering. The numbness. The ability to somehow look like everything is alright.

The name of my condition is Generalized Anxiety Disorder. What follows, when the anxiety wears off, is depression. It's the feeling of hundred pound ankle weights. I had several good years, but just in the last few weeks, I'm getting the familiar clenching stomach and struggling to get a breath. Politics, COVID, and work stress are rattling around in my head, and things that should be simple, like an errand I had to do Monday, now feel like going into no man's land. I can't see a way out of this…yet. I've been here before. It will get better. I just have to keep inching forward.

Finally, you can talk about your trauma if and when you're ready. Until then, I'm fine with not knowing. Trauma is real, no matter if it came with a medal or not.

So, Amen Brother. I hope your tribulations have eased a little in the weeks since you made this video. Thank you for getting in front of that mic to be so honest. And know that, scattered across the interwebs, a number of us would be in pain if you left us too soon.

I totally understand suicidal depression and longterm depression. A book that really helped me: The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. A basic down-to-earth guide with helpful solutions. Most of us with depression struggles have a misbalanced neurotransmitter problem. Not enough access to serotonin dopamine ect. The book and her website have questionnaires to help pinpoint what you are missing and covers different medication, diet, and lifestyle solutions. Another life changer specific to low serotonin: 5 HTP. The brand that works for me is Natures Way 5 HTP. 50 mg. I take 2 of the 50 mg at night on an empty stomach and wake up feeling hopeful again! Lifechanger. No yucky medication feeling, an excellent natural supplement. I have found a great balance with Welbutrin 100 mg during the day and 5htp at night. Lots of love to you – what a warrior to open up so you can help others ♡
