The revived Hispano Suiza has unveiled its second model, the Carmen Boulogne, which the company says is “the sportier evolution of the Hispano Suiza Carmen.” The Spanish-based company plans to produce 12 examples of the Carmen and five of the Carmen Boulogne.
The cars are electric-powered luxury supercars operating with 1,114 horsepower, sprinting to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds and with a top speed of nearly 180 mph, the company said.
The Carmen’s electric powertrain is rated at 1,019 horsepower. With more use of carbon fiber, including the roof, and optimization of suspension components, the Boulogne also weighs 132 pounds less than the standard Carmen.
“The Boulogne name dates back to 1921, when Hispano Suiza made a racing version of its high-performance H6 Coupé and entered it in the George Boillot Cup, an endurance race lasting more than 3.5 hours around the French city of Boulogne,” the automaker said in its announcement. “There, Hispano Suiza achieved three consecutive victories with André Dubonnet (1921), Paul Bablot (1922) and Léonce Garnier (1923) driving the mighty Hispano Suiza H6.”
Hispano Suiza said the Carmen Boulgne has two electric engines powering each of its rear wheels and uses torque vectoring technology developed from the Formula E racing series. It added that the lithium-ion polymer battery offers are range of up to nearly 250 miles.
“The entire body of the Carmen Boulogne is made of carbon fiber, visible under a clear varnish that emphasizes its sportiness and preserves the timeless elegance of this model,” the company said. “It sports the same semi-circular headlights and aggressive ‘scowl’ as the Carmen, with the difference of an imposing copper-colored grille.
The car can be purchased with suede or black Alcantara trim. Pricing starts at €1.65 million ($1.997 million) with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2022, the company added.
The revived Hispano Suiza brand is part of the Peralada Group, which dates to 1904 and remains owned and managed by the founding Suqué Mateu family. The group, which has 12 wineries, has holdings that include 21 restaurants, 8 casinos and 6 hotels in Europe and Latin America. and hosts the annual Peralada International Music Festival.
