RUF Automobile, the German company known for producing Porsche-based supercars and resto-mod classics, is accepting orders for its new effort giving air-cooled Porsche 964 models “modern supercar performance” capabilities.
Porsche produced the 964 generation of its 911 model from 1989-1994. They were the first 911s to offer all-wheel drive and Tiptronic automatic transmissions.
For their donor car and €350,000 ($425,000), RUF says customers will receive a RUF RCT Evo with a turbocharged engine rated at 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
Customers also have the option of a RUF’s carbon-fiber body “for better aerodynamics and less weight, while optional carbon-ceramic brakes, center-lock wheels and an integrated roll cage complete the package,” the company said.
“While the technology has evolved since 1990, the formula for a fun car has not,” added Estonia Ruf, co-owner of the family run business. “The RCT takes that formula and turns up the dial.
“The car has the same feeling you might expect from a 964, but with more power and less weight for a higher over-all performance. The recipe didn’t change, the ingredients just got better.”
RUF was founded as a general service garage in 1939 by Alois Ruf Sr. The company expanded, in 1955 building full-size tourist buses and in 1963 began specializing in Porsche vehicles, and in 1975 launched its first RUF-enhanced Porsches.
