Could we see a second set of ToyoBaru twins this year? New reports from Japan say yes.
Toyota and Subaru could spring a surprise reveal at the Tokyo motor show, with Japanese reports suggesting the second-generation 86 and BRZ will be unveiled in concept form.
Japanese magazine Best Car reports the new coupes will officially launch in the first half of 2021, but we’ll see a concept previewing the next-generation models at the Tokyo motor show next month.
Toyota has shown a propensity for long lead times between concept and production versions of its sports cars – the Supra was famously teased by the FT-1in 2014, before a racing version of the car was revealed at the Detroit motor show in 2018. It wasn’t until January 2019 that Toyota finally saw fit to reveal the car in full.
Reports about the future of Toyota and Subaru’s sporty tie-up have been swirling all year, first suggesting the car wouldn’t see a second generation, then confirming there’s a new one coming.
