Volvos (through the P3 platform) are NOT endless money pits! My family has two V70s, the older is 17 years old. Neither have required more than standard services. I maintain them both at a high level and plan to daily that 2002 for the rest of my life. The NA 5-cylinders are very durable, as are the transmissions (if you're competent).
