Vehicles Affected: Approximately 7,800 model-year 2018 Mazda CX-9 SUVs
The Problem: The wiring harness may disrupt electrical communications and disable the passenger frontal airbag, turn signals and engine starting system. As a result, the passenger frontal airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Inoperable turn signals also prevent the driver from signaling to other vehicles, increasing the risk of crash.
The Fix: Dealers will repair the wiring harnesses for free.
What Owners Should Do: Mazda will begin notifying owners no later than July 29. Owners can call the automaker at 800-222-5500, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
