While brands like Ford, Audi and Jaguar were also among the winners in their respective power categories.
Ferrari has once again taken out International Engine of the Year, beating Jaguar’s all-electric powertrain and Mercedes-AMG’s ubiquitous V8 for the honour.
It’s the fourth year in a row Ferrari has won the award, a feat that’s never been achieved before. Ford won three years running with its 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder engine, so back-to-back awards aren’t unheard of, but it’s an impressive achievement for the folks in Maranello nonetheless.
This year saw the introduction of a new category system. Rather than dividing things by displacement, engines are categorised by outputs.
The 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 from the 488 GTB and Pista scored 425 points in the overall category, comfortably ahead of the Jaguar I-Pace pure-electric powertrain on 328 points and Mercedes-AMG’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 on 280.
“Now [the Ferrari engine] has won the overall award four years straight, cementing its place in the history books,” Dean Slavnich, International Engine and Powertrain of the Year awards co-chair.
“I very much doubt such an achievement will ever be matched again.”
Although Ferrari took out the big gong, there are plenty of supplementary gongs on offer. A full list of winners is below.
