Vehicles Affected: Approximately 16,500 model-year 2013 Hyundai Veloster hatchbacks equipped with turbocharged 1.6-liter engines
The Problem: The engine management software may cause premature ignition of the air/fuel mixture in the engine, resulting in excessive cylinder pressure that may damage the engine. This could increase the risk of a fire or cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will update the engine management software for free.
What Owners Should Do: Hyundai will begin notifying owners May 13. Owners can call the automaker at 855-371-9460, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
