Hyundai Venue

Hyundai is adding another SUV to its vehicle lineup and will name it the Venue. The new model is set to debut at the 2019 New York International Auto Show in April. Unlike the most recent SUV addition, the three-row Palisade, the Venue will be even smaller than Hyundai’s Kona. Spy photos of the model undergoing testing the past summer in Death Valley with the new Kia Soul show it as smaller even than the Soul.

The test vehicle in those photos had a more traditional SUV shape than the Kona. In an interview with Motor Trend in February, SangYup Lee, head of Hyundai’s Global Design Center, described the design as having a “distinctive two-box area. So imagine Kona as a really fast profile, distinctive, iconic character to it, but this one is almost very boxy, bold, bull-doggy character.”

Among the promotional materials for this announcement was a photo of a bunch of young adults taking part in what appears to be a rapturous rooftop concert featuring two acoustic guitars, a singer … and a bongo player. According to the automaker, “Hyundai’s naming theme for CUVs has typically been a city or place. Venue embodies the characteristics of ‘the place to be,’ en route to the final destination, wherever that may be.”
