I do most of my car work myself and have for years. Just changed my radiator fan a couple of months ago. The shop wanted $270 with me providing the part. Me and my friend did it in an hour. I also do my own electrical , plumbing and AC work on my house. Don't worry too much about making mistakes, that is how you learn. It may cost you more money, but again you learned and won't make the mistake again. Just take your time and do your research. Techs love to make you think you're not capable of doing these things, they'll even tell you it's illegal. They are just trying to keep getting the business.

I started by changing my oil when I was probably 20. Watched the burnout at the oil change shop and figured if he could do it so could I. Then kept building knowledge on little repairs and maintenance items. Plus dealing with the utter incompetence of most shops, I do just about everything except changing tires. But for those I take the wheels in and reinstall the wheels myself. I still use the same socket set and only recently had to buy a new oil catch pan for $3 Haha. Of course I have accumulated a wide ranging set of tools but my old socket set is the go-to. Doing my own fixes has enabled me to keep the same cars for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles. Who knows how much money I have saved over the years.

I have subscribed a while ago. I watch other car videos too. My goal now is to watch every single video you have posted and learn. Do you have a list of tools you recommend for a beginner? Or what you have listed in the comment section is enough ?
I live in H town too and hope to meet you in person one day iA.

I tried working on my car once. It needed a part that cost $25. I did so much damage trying to install that part that it then needed a new part that I cost $100.

It is a gateway. I started changing oil and now i'm a dual traded mechanic and engineer.. Fixing things yourself is a joy.
