Vehicles Affected: Approximately 1,600 model-year 2018 BMW M5 luxury sedans
The Problem: The fuel level sensor in the fuel tank may become stuck against an in-tank fuel line, causing the fuel gauge to display an inaccurate amount of fuel, which may lead to a vehicle stalling and increase the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will secure the in-tank fuel line to keep the fuel line from contacting the fuel level sensor for free.
What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners Sept. 10. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
