A true car enthusiast talks about a passion project like no other.

For car enthusiasts, a well made model is almost as exciting as the real thing. Russell Lord is taking the art of model making to new heights, artfully constructing accurate models from silver, gold and precious jewels.

In this , he documents the process of crafting a classic 1976 Mk2 Ford Escort rally car by hand, right down to the bonnet hinges and control arms. Getting the movement of the bonnet hinges right was particularly difficult, because the movement of a regular bonnet isn’t like opening a door. It took four attempts to get it right.

The headlights are diamonds, are there’s gold and white gold scattered around the construction as well. Lord is a diamond mounter by trade, so he’s used to working with expensive materials.

It’s a long clip, but the story is truly incredible, right down to the motivation behind it. Check it out.
